OSU Powers Oregon’s Innovation Engine

At Oregon State University, artificial intelligence is a connective force that ties together forestry, agriculture, climate science, oceans, and more.

“It’s AI plus agriculture, AI plus oceans, AI plus everything,” says Oregon State President Jayathi Murthy. “At OSU, we believe that advancements are made at the boundaries of disciplines, and they only happen when ideas can flow freely across these boundaries.”

This integrated approach is core to OSU’s mission as Oregon’s land grant university. Its strategic plan, Prosperity Widely Shared, centers on conducting solutions-focused research, working toward the goal that every student graduates, and fueling economic development that lifts all of Oregon.

The Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex, set to open in 2026, will bring this vision to life with a supercomputer, clean room, invention studio and more, where researchers, students, and industry partners can work side-by-side to turn ideas into real-world solutions.

That collaborative mindset also extends beyond the physical campus. A new collaboration with the Technology Association of Oregon gives TAO member employees and their spouses a 15 percent tuition scholarship on all online programs delivered through OSU Ecampus, including more than 100 degrees and microcredentials in high-demand fields like computer science and supply chain analytics. The agreement builds on Oregon State’s collaborations with industry on the front lines of innovation.

“We bring the science and early-stage ideas, and industry brings the real-world insights,” Murthy says. “That back-and-forth is how real impact happens.”

For Murthy, the energy at the university is undeniable.

“There’s a genuine sense of excitement about what’s ahead,” she says. “We want the rest of Oregon to feel it too.”
