#STEMSpotlight: Southern Oregon STEM

What is the name of your organization (hub)? Southern Oregon Education Service District, Southern Oregon STEM

Which region do you serve? How would you describe it? Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties: mostly rural.

Briefly describe a few of your Hub's current initiatives. Building up Career Connected Learning through the pilot programming of YOUSCIENCE pairing with Oregon connections NEPRIS for career awareness and exploration. Teachers Development Group has been strategically engaging our educators in equity for math; demonstrating techniques that are paving the way for success in every student. Oregon Science Project is growing in Southern Oregon as our rural STEM teachers are connecting in ways they never dreamed this last year by virtual means; connectivity has a new meaning and while we know that technology cannot replace in-person interactions, it sure has provided ways to connect long-distance in ways we couldn't before. Our Chief Science Officers stretched this year, creating action plans involving their communities in new and different ways and they connected with local industry through our Oregon Connections platform for STEM feedback. Early Learning kits are all the rave and we are preparing to launch round two of our kits that will go to rural families of young children paired with videos demonstrating how to use them in both English and Spanish. zSpace is our newest edition to our lending library stacked with software for several career sector exploration and training opportunities. Camp Invention kits were provided for spring break camps in Klamath and in 4 locations for summer camps during 2020. Lastly "The Bus Project" and our "Pre-Apprenticeship Program Expansion" are growing with lightning speed!
