The Presidential Initiative in Data Science at the University of Oregon

The world is awash in data, and the advanced analysis of these data is changing all aspects of society. Top universities across the world are responding to this revolution, including the University of Oregon (UO) through a university-wide Initiative in Data Science.

The goal of this initiative is to enhance existing educational and research efforts across data science at UO, develop novel areas of undergraduate and graduate education, expand new avenues of research, strengthen connections with other universities on the West Coast, and develop deeper ties with industry, government and other societal partners.

Technology Association of Oregon hosted University of Oregon on Wednesday, May 20th for a webinar about the Data Science Initiative with a focus on the new university-wide undergraduate program and major in data science at UO that will start educating its first students this fall.

This was an interactive discussion with UO representatives who who are interested in learning more about the data science needs of the tech community that can be filled through the education of our students. And will include a preview of the next webinar focused on diverse aspects of graduate training in data science at UO.
