Position Summary  

The Science, Computing and Engineering Pathway at Portland Community College is looking for a Computer Science instructor primarily at the Rock Creek Campus scheduled to begin Fall 2022.

  • Has a passion for and/or experience with college-level teaching or adult training and strives for teaching excellence
  • Willingness to share expertise in subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Expert Systems, Object-Oriented Programming,  Cybersecurity, and Software Development with students who have no background in these topics
  • Applies instructional expertise and a deep understanding of Culturally Responsive Education theory to make Computer Science topics approachable and relatable to freshman and sophomore college students, including students who have no prior experience in Computer Science
  • Responds to cultural shifts and changing community support needs to help improve our Computer Science program through curriculum development and pedagogical innovation. Open to working with teaching technologies such as Desire2Learn and other learning management systems.
  • Ability to support and mentor part-time faculty in the department


Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).


  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (preferred)


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
  • 5 years of relevant academic or industry experience
  • For all 100 level courses:For each course, the instructor must have a minimum of five years professional experience gained through a combination of study, teaching experience, and/or professional performance in the subject area.

  Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be up to Step 3 ($62,665) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Position Grade Salary Range $58780 to $99564 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, Long-term Care, and Auto and Home Insurance programs.


PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP.  A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049.  PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions. 

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)
