Requisition ID req1537 Department Computer Science Campus SY-Sylvania Campus Employment Type Faculty Best Consideration Date 2/2/2023 Position Summary The Science, Computing & Engineering Pathway at Portland Community College is looking for a full-time faculty member in Computer Science, scheduled to begin Fall 2023.

The successful candidate will support and grow student interest and success in this vital technical field by providing high quality and culturally responsive instruction and helping to develop innovative curriculum and programs. The position is primarily housed at the Sylvania campus, and there will be opportunities to support the Computer Science department college-wide.

We are interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background.

  • Has a passion for and/or experience with college-level teaching or adult training and strives for teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability/knowledge in subjects like Object-Oriented Programming, Discrete Structures and Computational Techniques, and Software Development.
  • Applies instructional expertise and a deep understanding of culturally responsive teaching to make Computer Science topics approachable and relatable to freshman and sophomore college students, including students who have no prior experience in Computer Science.
  • Responds to cultural shifts and changing community support needs to help improve our Computer Science program through curriculum development and pedagogical innovation. Open to working with teaching technologies such as Desire2Learn and other learning management systems.
  • Provide support and mentoring to part-time faculty in the department.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field*
  • At least 5 years of relevant academic or industry experience


  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or related field

*related fields include Computer Engineering Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($64,562) and Step 3 ($68,491) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Position Grade Salary Range PCC Full-Time Faculty Schedule 2022/23 FTE 1 PCC Benefits PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, Long-term Care, and Auto and Home Insurance programs.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note:Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)
