Business Need / Purpose of Role
Our client is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its Digital Products group. This individual will be an integral member of a team responsible for creating new & improving existing digital products by generating designs, supporting platform integration, and product release activities around cutting-edge sensing technologies. Our client’s digital products utilize a variety of sensor, control, and communication technologies marketed to our industrial mining and construction customers. The work environment is dynamic and requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and provide project support and/or leadership as needed.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

  • Generate designs that meet customer needs
  • Work with stakeholders to establish device specifications
  • Work to project timelines and within budget targets; manage tasks to ensure deliverables are met and complete documentation per process and standard work
  • Create and maintain system test sets for engineering validation
  • Support existing products in production including updates for EOL parts, cost reductions, new features, and manufacturing improvements
  • Identify new sensor and control technologies, validate performance and application potential, and establish network to maintain awareness of relevant technology
  • Generate and maintain documentation including development plans and design documentation

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • Must have 3+ years’ experience in electrical/electronic product design for industrial/commercial sensors, controls or instrumentation
  • Must have knowledge of current sensor technologies and hardware development
  • Experienced in test set development, including designing test cases, test fixture design for modules, and engineering validation
  • Experience with circuit design, circuit and system modeling, PCB design & layout, materials properties & selection, and system reliability required
  • Must have good diagnostic and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform engineering validation, root cause analysis, component failure analysis
  • Experienced with RF device design, testing, and analysis, including antennas, BLE, and sub-GHz technologies
  • Familiarity with designing devices and systems with compliance in mind
  • Demonstrated track record of working as part of a cross-functional team to deliver results with exceptional quality, on time, to budget and meeting the needs of the customer required
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with stakeholders and customers required
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 10% including some possible international travel

Additional Preferred Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with designing and sourcing components for ruggedized devices and systems that operate in harsh environments
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovation in the iterative development and optimization of products
  • Documentation skills including schematics, bill of materials, assembly drawing and test reports
  • Ability and desire to learn quickly
  • Experience working with safety and regulatory compliance vendors (UL, Intertek, Element, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative individual contributor
