De La Salle's Corporate Work Study Program Develops Tomorrow's Leaders

Our mission at De La Salle North Catholic High School is to develop tomorrow's community leaders by making high-quality education accessible to motivated young people. We are ranked the #1 most diverse private high school in Oregon and we are committed to transforming the lives of our students so that they will graduate high school, go to college and return to serve communities.

The combination of our rigourous academic program and unique Corporate Work Study Program creates a dynamic approach to educating a well-rounded student. Each student is expected to attend classes four days a week and work five days a month at one of our 92 corporate partners. The synergy between student and corporate partners provides a robust experience for both the student and the corporation resulting in consistently sending 95% of our students on to college.

We know our program is pretty unique, and are proud to share what some of our roporate partners say about working with our students from De La Salle Catholic High School:

SurveyMonkey is proud to sponsor 4 students as part of the Corporate Work Study Program for De La Salle North. The students do quality assurance on thousands of inbound data points to ensure the accuracy of the Benchmarks product. In addition, they are wonderful presence in our office. Polite, hardworking, curious, and friendly, out team learns as much from the students as they do from our team. This is the first year of the sponsorship program and we are enthusiastically committed to the partnership in the years to come.

Stoel Rives LLP has been a proud partner of De La Salle’s Corporate Work Study Program since the Program’s inception (in 2001). This partnership provides students with an opportunity to gain work experience in a professional environment in which many youth are not afforded. Students work in various departments within the Firm’s Portland office—including Accounting, IT, Records, and Reception—performing duties such as greeting clients, data entry, scanning, and filing. They are able to connect their academics with real-world experience and fine tune their interpersonal skills, increase in self-confidence, and foster additional relationships outside of home and school. In turn, we as the employer are able to positively impact the lives of young people through nurturing, coaching, and providing constructive feedback. It’s very rewarding to see the students’ progression from timid freshmen to confident seniors well prepared to apply the skills and experiences gained to be successful in the bright future ahead of them!

NWEA has partnered with De La Salle High School (DLSNC) for nearly a decade... We find that the nature of our work lends itself to a positive working environment for the students, and they are a joy to have on our teams. Students develop good working relationships with their supervisors, and the work they produce for us is meaningful and important. We’re excited each year when we get to see our senior students graduate and move on into the next adventure of their lives, and yet always a little sad to see them go.
