Oregon Tech Awards

The 35th annual Oregon Technology Awards on Wednesday, April 17th will draw more than 600 attendees including entrepreneurs and tech professionals from across the region and around the globe.


SAM BLACKMAN AWARD

The Oregon Technology Awards celebrates excellence and achievement in the region's technology industry and honors outstanding individuals with prestigious Sam Blackman Award (formerly Technology Executive of the Year), Lifetime Achievement, and Tech Champion awards.

The Sam Blackman Award, named for AWS Elemental Founder & CEO and 2015 Technology Executive of the Year Sam Blackman, recognizes executives of Oregon and SW Washington based technology companies for excellence in industry leadership as well as an individual’s positive impact in the greater community.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, January 11th
WINNER ANNOUNCED: Wednesday, February 20th

Applicants, should they be chosen to receive the Sam Blackman Award, will need to be available for a one to two days in March 2019 for award video filming and in attendance at the 2019 Oregon Technology Awards on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019.

COMPANY AWARDS

Nominations open 12:01 am - Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

All technology sectors are eligible, including systems, hardware, and communications software, internet, mobile and other application companies, technology service companies, biotechnology, medical device, and other life science companies, and environmental science and energy companies. Furthermore, companies from industries not traditionally characterized as technology companies, are also eligible if they have an extraordinary commitment to innovation or using technology within their fields. The company award categories will be based on the size of a company, not an industry segment.

HOW TO NOMINATE
Nominations may be submitted in more than one award category, and you do not have to be a member of the TAO to apply or to win.

AWARD CATEGORIES
Eligibility and questions are specific to each category and can be found through the following links:

TECHNOLOGY COMPANY OF THE YEAR
Presented to companies headquartered in Oregon or SW Washington, who have had a significant impact on Oregon’s technology industry in the past year including financial, employment and community factors.

Categories:
Pre-Revenue
Emerging (up to $3M)
Rising Star ($3 - $20M)
Growth ($20 - $100M)
Enterprise ($100M and more)

Nomination Criteria:

  • Companies must derive the majority of their revenue through sales of products or services that would be considered technology based. As examples, this would specifically include, but is not limited to the fields of integrated circuits, computing systems and subsystems, software, internet services, display devices, and telecommunications equipment and services.
  • Service providers, even those who provide services to companies in the technology field, are not specifically eligible unless they also qualify under the above definition.

NON HEADQUARTERED
Presented to the company that has a presence in Oregon via division and/or wholly owned subsidiary that has had a significant impact on Oregon’s technology industry in the past year including financial, employment and community factors.

Nomination Criteria:

  • Companies will be judged based on their operations and results of the local organization and must derive the majority of their revenue through sales of products or services that would be considered technology based. As examples, this would specifically include, but is not limited to the fields of integrated circuits, computing systems and subsystems, software, internet services, display devices, and telecommunications equipment and services.
  • Service providers, even those who provide services to companies in the technology field, are not specifically eligible unless they also qualify under the above definition.
  • Eligible companies wishing to be considered for any of the above awards must complete, to the best of their ability, the requisite application form, and be available to answer additional questions that may arise from the Awards Selection Committee (ASC).

MOST DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Presented to the company that has been a true catalyst within their industry and proven their ability to disrupt the established way of doing things.

Nomination Criteria:

  • Companies must be headquartered in Oregon or SW Washington or have the majority of their revenue generated from activities within the region.
  • A major division or business unit of a company headquartered elsewhere may also apply, in which case they will be judged based on their operations and results of the local organization.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE
Presented to an individual, company, project or program that best exemplifies the spirit of the Oregon & SW Washington technology community.

Nomination criteria:

  • Oregon or SW Washington based company, project, program or person.
  • Emphasis on bold entrepreneurship, innovation, and building community.
  • Inspiration to the regional tech community.

Five nominated individuals, companies, projects, or programs will be announced on Monday, March 4th and the winner will be revealed at the Oregon Technology Awards on Wednesday, April 17th!
