DEV Forum: Education Road Show: The Path to a Career in High Tech

Are YOU interested in exploring a technology-related career? Then YOU need to attend this IT Traveling Road Show: The Path to a Career in High Tech presented by the Technology Association of Oregon.

The Road Show is a free event designed for college students & alumni who want to learn more about technology careers and the educational paths available to enter the field.

Recent graduates of the college's technology programs will join a panel of industry professionals to discuss career paths in tech. They’ll speak to subjects including how they got interested in technology, what their educational journey has been like, what their career aspirations are and a view into "a day in the life”.

Hear from:

  • Carey Buelt, Sr. Engineering Manager, McAfee - Carey Buelt is an OSU Alum that graduated with a MIS degree and has over 19 years experience in IT.   Twelve of those years were as Quality Assurance or Development Manager in companies that include Timberline Software (now Sage), First American, Nike, and McAfee where he has played a major role in building cross-discipline teams located globally.   Carey has had the distinct pleasure of growing several young IT professionals in various disciplines that not only still work for the same company, but in many cases been promoted through the ranks.
  • Jason Prothero, Director of Product Development, ProWorks Corporation and Oregon State University Alumni - Jason Prothero has been a senior developer and manager at ProWorks Corporation for 12 years and is the President of the Technology Association of Oregon, Corvallis Chapter.  He also has been the lead organizer for Ignite Corvallis and on the planning committee for Willamette Innovators Night.  He has worked with several interns and young developers who now work at places such as Microsoft, Intel, and Yahoo.
  • Brett Tramposh, Quality Practice Leader, Cambia Health Solutions
    Brett has over 20 years experience as a Quality Assurance professional working in the Portland area. Prior to Cambia Brett was Director of Quality Assurance at Webtrends, iovation and McAfee where he was instrumental in building both local and global teams, as well as hiring and mentoring new recruits. Cambia was recognized recently with an award from Mayor Sam Adams and the City of Portland for their job creation innovation in hiring 20 new college graduates into the Regence IT department.
  • Trevor Misfeldt, Co-founder, CenterSpace - Trevor has over 25 years of experience in software development. He has written three bestselling books on programming practices. Ten years ago, Trevor co-founded CenterSpace Software, a Corvallis-based math company. In 2009, CenterSpace won the Willamette Angel Conference. Trevor is currently CEO at CenterSpace.
