Uber Eats to launch in Eugene Today

Eugene, Ore. (Oct. 30, 2018) -- Starting today at 7:30 a.m., Eugene residents and visitors will be able to order from dozens of local restaurants with the Uber Eats app, seven days a week. The free, standalone Uber Eat app is available for both iOS and Android. At launch, Uber Eats is facilitating delivery of food from dozens of area restaurants.

“We’ve already seen that customers love using Uber Eats because it gives them access to the food they love quickly and conveniently,” said Kiran Vinta, Head of Launch and Expansion for Uber Eats US. “Uber Eats is for anyone who wants an easy and reliable way to get their favorite food, no matter what they’re doing or where they are.”

Notable Uber Eats restaurant partners in Eugene include The Daily Bagel, The Cannery, El Kiosco, Chao Pra Ya Thai Cuisine and Sixth Street Grill. The Eugene Uber Eats service area will cover much of the Eugene metro area, spanning from River Ave. in the North, to Springfield in the East, to College Hill in the South, and to OR 569 in the West.

Food prices on the Uber Eats app are set by the restaurants themselves and Uber adds a booking fee that is based on a number of factors. Just like with Uber's rideshare application, customers will always see prices upfront so they know what they'll be paying before they order.

Uber Eats facilitates food delivery through an app separate from Uber's rideshare app because requesting a ride and ordering a meal are two different experiences. The similarity, however, is that Uber makes both easy and reliable. The same technology company that brought people access to rides at the touch of a button is now doing the same for food delivery. A video released by Uber Eats last year provides an overview of how easy the app is to use.

The Eugene launch is part of a broader national expansion that brings Uber Eats to more than 70 percent of the U.S. population. Uber Eats has doubled the number of active cities since the end of 2017, and the number of customers using the app is growing rapidly. Earlier this year, analytics platform Second Measure showed that Uber Eats is the fastest-growing meal delivery application in the U.S.
