2018 Sam Blackman Award Winner

Portland, Ore. – March 14, 2018 – The Technology Association of Oregon (TAO) announced today that Stephen Marsh, founder and chairman of Smarsh, has been selected as winner of the 2018 Sam Blackman Award. Formerly known as the Technology Executive of the Year award, the Sam Blackman Award is named for AWS Elemental founder and 2015 Technology Executive of the Year, Sam Blackman, who passed away in August 2017.

Marsh will be recognized at the Oregon Technology Awards ceremony on May 10. Now in its 34th year, the Oregon Technology Awards celebrates excellence and achievement within the region’s vibrant technology community.

Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Smarsh provides an integrated suite of information archiving applications and services that help companies protect themselves and manage risk. Since its founding in 2001, the company has grown to more than 230 employees and six offices worldwide. Marsh’s leadership of Smarsh, community involvement and role as a mentor and investor in up-and-coming startups led to his selection for the prestigious award.

“I’m honored to be recognized by the Technology Association of Oregon,” said Marsh. “I am incredibly proud of what our team at Smarsh has built and the services we provide our clients around the world. I’m privileged to be part of Oregon’s innovative technology community. ”

“The Sam Blackman Award recognizes executives of Oregon and Southwest Washington-based technology companies for excellence in industry leadership as well as an individual’s positive impact in the greater community,” said Skip Newberry, TAO president and CEO. “Steve excels in all these areas. We’re thrilled to recognize him while honoring Sam Blackman’s legacy and impact on the Oregon technology community.”

The 2018 Oregon Technology Awards Program is presented by JLL and United HealthCare. TAO anticipates that the event will draw more than 600 attendees, including entrepreneurs and tech professionals from across the region and around the globe.
